We love applesauce in our house! It is a healthy, yummy, easy treat. We purchase it pretty often, but we also love to make it. The kids are proud when they are able to help. Here is a super easy recipe for applesauce in the Crockpot.
- What You Need:
- Crockpot
- Peeler
- Apple Corer/ Knife
- Masher/ Whisk
- 12 Apples (Mix Different Types)
- 1 Cup Water
- Dash Cinnamon
- Dash Sea Salt (Optional)
- Honey (Optional)
- Fresh Squeezed Lemon (Optional)
- Wash apples in water and vinegar.
- Peel and slice apples. We use an apple corer and a peeler to make it easier, but a knife will work too.
- Place peeled, sliced apples in the crockpot.
- Add water.
- Add sea salt and cinnamon.
- Drizzle with honey. This makes it sweet and extra delicious, but we sometimes skip this step to avoid the sugar.
- Cover and cook on high for 3-4 hours. I usually check it around 2.5 hours, stir it, and decide how much longer it needs. It will get soft enough that it stirs into an applesauce consistency easily.
- Squeeze in fresh lemon juice. This helps the applesauce from turning as brown, and we think it tastes better when we add lemon.
- Use a masher or whisk to stir it to the consistency you like. If you or your children prefer it really smooth, you can use your food processor.
- Allow it to cool and portion it into containers.
- Enjoy!
